Obituary

Raymond Earl Gorham was born February 8, 1953 to the late Ed and Mattie Gorham in Washington, North Carolina. Raymond was called home and entered eternal rest at Calvary Hospital on May 18, 2023.

Raymond attended Washington High School and graduated 1972. Shortly after graduating, Raymond moved to New York and began working for the New York State Insurance Fund in 1973. Raymond was greatly admired by his co-workers. A dedicated worker of 37 years, Raymond retired in 2009. In his spare time, Raymond would set-up and host fashion shows. In 1974, Raymond met his long-time love Shirley Daise.

Raymond enjoyed entertaining. He had a special connection to Tompkins Avenue in Brooklyn. He had a little club where people would gather to socialize, listen to music and dance. Raymond loved cooking, partying, dancing, playing cards and being with family and friends. He was known for being generous, kind-hearted, and sharp dressing. He was the glue that kept the Gorham family together with countless gatherings in New York and hosting family reunions in his hometown Washington, North Carolina.

Raymond leaves to cherish his memory his lady Shirley Daise, one brother Henry Gorham (Leslie), one sister Ida Cooper; four sister-in-laws: Ann Gorham, Pauline Gorham, Margie Gorham and Juanita Word; one Godson Aaron Grimes and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and great, great grand nieces and nephews.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Mattie Gorham, his brothers Simon Gorham, Edward Gorham, James Earl Gorham, Richard Gorham and sisters Mattie C. Gorham, Mary Hopkins, Ruth Gorham, Armeta Blount, And May Gladys.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon Saturday June 3, 2023, at Davis Chapel Missionary 2817 Cherry Run Washington, NC 27889. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery Washington, NC 

A public viewing will be Friday June 2, 2023, from 3pm- 8pm at L.R. Memorial Chapel 208 W. MLK Jr. Drive Washington, NC 27889.

Repass will be held at the American Legion Saturday June 3, 2023 from 4:00pm-8:00pm  

Due to COVID-19, please wear masks when attending the service. Please practice social distancing so that we all can stay safe.
