He worked as a chemist in Bayonne ,New Jersey , later worked as a chemist in Canada then back in the states in Plattsburgh ,New York. Then once again scoring high grades in tests within the military he earned the rank of Lieutenant and then earned higher rank as Captain and Navigator. Upon arriving in the intense war in Vietnam ,Larry Thomas Graddy used his accuracy in math to strategize victory in battles so much so that he achieved the highest honors in the Air Force which was notably the Distinguished Flying Cross saving the lives of fellow military units and earned even more medals of achievement. While still in military service Larry Thomas Graddy and Brenda Cook Ayeboua ; the mother of their only child welcomed his only child and son into the world in 1973 Naeem Abdullah Bin Graddy. Continuing his active duty in The Vietnam War from July 28,1965 until July 18 1974. After returning home from war fresh from the Air Force he had a home built in Washington, North Carolina. Larry Thomas Graddy ,a great loving father in addition to being a skilled farmer, fisherman , and hunter; which was one of his many passions , Mr. Graddy really loved attending Sunday church service and was a member of St. Luke Church. On December 22,1984 , Larry Thomas Graddy married Mary Louise Whitney. Also for a period of time became a deacon following in the footsteps of his father, plus he used his own money to both purchase and have the church bell placed on top of the church , which is still there currently. Increasing his educational attributes he graduated from East Carolina University (ECU Pirates). It was destiny and irony that his father was called Math. Working at Weyheuser was a corporate success but did not fulfill his other passion to become a teacher. An excellent math teacher and tutor for more than “half of Washington “ as he liked to emphasize for 18 plus years in the State of North Carolina School system til retirement and older age. His popularity is authentic and the youth loved to call him “Mr. Graddy”. It is most common to meet people that say they would have not graduated or got the careers and jobs they had if not for Mr.Graddy. He had a caring heart, would be known for helping those in need, uplifting others, but did a lot of socialization in general as well as at the now gone “Griffin’ Beach “ a former popular gathering place with a fried crab specialty. Shirt opened dog tags on and life of the party having an energy that was always charismatic in his prime and appeared as if he never met a stranger because he could converse with different personalities of people before living a more reserved lifestyle as a senior. Ailments would cause a health decline leading up to around October 1, 2023 which eventually became worse. Larry Thomas Graddy departed this life on February 07, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Math (Matthew ) and Mary Jane Graddy, and siblings Johnnie Graddy Sr, Matthew Allen Keyes Graddy Jr. and Mamie Banks.
